Gurnee, Ill. - From red carpets to fashion boutiques,
pregnancy seems to be society's newest and hottest trend.
Baring your basketball-sized belly is no longer a faux pas,
and spending a paycheck on your toddler's velour lounging
outfit is a must. But for the 6 million couples that are battling
infertility, baby Apple and little Spears are just an agonizing
reminder of what they want, but cannot easily have.
Painful injections, carefully
monitored cycles and tens of thousands of dollars spent on
procedures are just some of the issues infertile couples face
in the struggle to start a family. These are all a side thought,
however, to the emotional devastation that accompanies this
journey.
No One Should Get
Pregnant Alone, by Elaine Fox (ISBN: 1-933538-12-0,
TurnKey Press, November 2005, $13.95), follows Emily Vance
and her husband through the emotional ups and downs of overcoming
infertility. Nothing is off limits - from the hormonal rages
to the unromantic sex at pre-appointed times - Emily and her
husband experience it all. This no-nonsense, and often humorous,
look at infertility comes from Fox's own struggle to conceive.
Fox currently resides in
Gurnee, Ill., with her husband and three children. She earned
a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and graduated
as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa society. Her resume includes
experience in employee relations and corporate affairs at
Allstate Insurance Company, as well as public relations and
marketing experience with Playboy Magazine. Despite her career
opportunities, Elaine left all of it behind to be a stay-at-home
mom. After five years of battling infertility and three surgeries
to conceive her first child, she is pursuing a new profession
-motherhood. She is actively involved in her local PTA and
has been a classroom mother for the past ten years. She enjoys
cooking, reading, and traveling and is active in her local
community charities.
